Organisational Consulting

I work with a broad range of organisations to improve the quality and effectiveness of safeguarding practice. Throughout the course of my career I have held senior leadership roles in the child safeguarding and justice sectors in the UK and have worked as a senior safeguarding specialist at a leading Australian child safeguarding organisation. I have contributed to the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse as a sector expert and authored a submission to the Commission on best practice. I have also worked extensively in the domestic abuse sector, in particular developing and delivering perpetrator behaviour change programs. All of this experience provides a solid foundation from which I help organisations to better understand their challenges, strengths and opportunities for development. Trained in systems leadership, I am passionate about helping organisations to understand how all of their component parts can contribute to building environments which enable effective safeguarding.

Consulting Services

Learning Reviews following critical incidents

I have extensive experience in collaborating with a broad range of organisations following critical incidents, to examine gaps in policy and practice and identify pathways for improvement. I approach this work in a trauma-informed, person-centred and systemic way, focusing on facilitating culture change that creates safety and promotes wellbeing.

Review and development of policies, procedures and strategies

I have developed safeguarding policies and frameworks for diverse range of organisations - from individual schools, clubs, and service providers through to national and international multi-site, multi-jurisdiction organisations. My approach is collaborative and individualised, recognising that no two organisations are the same and each has its own offerings, challenges, strengths and opportunities.

Organisational assessments which enable leaders to develop a deeper understanding of strengths, gaps and opportunities for development

I have experience in developing tools, resources and frameworks which enable robust, appropriately challenging and transformative assessments of organisational safeguarding, and applying these in many settings and contexts, including government and not-for-profit sectors. I utilise a systemic approach to assess all aspects of organisations I work with - from policies, procedures and strategies, through to ‘on the ground’ practice, and most importantly, the experience of service users.

Stakeholder engagement including interviews and focus groups, which aim to ensure that the voices of service users can shape organisational improvements

Whether undertaken as part of a larger review or a standalone activity, I have experience coordinating and facilitating meaningful stakeholder engagement sessions to deliver a 360 degree view of safeguarding in organisations. I combine my social work and psychotherapeutic training to ensure focus groups and interviews are carefully tailored to participant needs and organisational contexts, and conducted in trauma-informed ways which consider the experience of stakeholders in wider organisational systems.

Leadership coaching

Leading safeguarding policy and practice in an organisation is complex. Tailored leadership coaching can help to identify blind-spots, unblock barriers to change and challenge leaders to think differently. I have coached leaders to help them solve problems, develop new systems and drive culture change in order to strengthen safeguarding in their organisations, and continue to provide this service either as part of a larger change project or standalone offering.
